Hello!
I’m Su, a children’s book illustrator based in the UK, with a big love of books and storytelling.

I believe books are more than just words on a page. They’re sanctuaries. Safe spaces for sensitive kids, who feel deeply, to understand their big feelings, see themselves and know they’re not alone.
Growing up can be a whirlwind of big feelings and emotions, and stories can offer a comforting place for children to explore, reflect, and to dream. Whether it's diving into new worlds or making sense of their own, reading can be a supportive companion through childhood.

As a parent of a gentle soul, and one myself, I’ve seen first hand how books can spark important conversations, encourage curiosity, nurture creativity, and invite children to see the world, and themselves, from new perspectives.

That’s why I enjoy creating gentle characters and scenes that speak to the inner worlds of quiet, thoughtful kids, ready to explore the more complex emotions and experiences navigated in longer chapter books. My work celebrates small, brave moments from the magic of childhood: a child who befriends a lonely creature, or who finds courage in quiet acts of kindness.

Whether I’m illustrating a book, creating prints for a bedroom wall or cards to show you care, my goal is always the same: to make space for our quiet kids to feel seen, safe and inspired to be fully themselves.

And if you're curious, here are a few more things you might like to know about me...

I love
to read
Reading is magical! You can escape to places you may never go and meet people you may never meet. It is a constant gift, learning not only about others but about yourself too.

I used to
be a TA
Long before having my son I was a teaching assistant, working in KS2. Helping a child finally click with their reading, and then watching them take off was the best part of the job.

Kids books are my favourite
I much prefer to be immersed in an heart-warming adventure, preferably surrounded by illustrations. My favourites at the moment are The Wild Robot and Impossible Creatures.

I'm always learning
With the help of courses created by The Good Ship Illustration, I have been able to develop my drawing style alongside building my confidence to forge a career in illustration.

I love
to draw
I used to wish that my childlike style was more 'grown up' and 'professional' looking, but now I embrace it as it perfectly reflects my sunny optimism and is a part of who I am.

I'm keen to learn more
I may be new to the world of illustration but I'm keen to develop my craft and share my passion for reading, bringing the comfort of stories to as many people as possible.
